If all goes well, I should have some mugshots to post as well. I'll be sure to post the results on what happens with that sd card. New file signatures can be added to the list of known file types by the end user. Such known file types can be custom-defined. However, I'm swinging by there later today to pick it up. Scan for Known File Types (raw file recovery): if the disk file system is heavily damaged or unsupported, R-Studio searches for specific data patterns ('file signatures') typical for certain file types (Microsoft Office documents, jpgs, etc.). I haven't tried this method out on the sd card with the trespassers on it yet, due to the fact that I left it in my office at work. Things are looking promising with this program. Next, I opened the Recuva program and it was able to recover the pictures that I just deleted using the quick format option. I looked for the pictures and sure enough they were deleted. I chose that option and it only took like 25-30 seconds maybe. This is where you have an option to do a "quick format". After viewing the pictures I then right clicked on the card drive and picked the format option. I took a few quick snapshots with my digital camera and then I inserted the card in my laptop to view the pictures. I set up another test with the card that I fully formatted last night.
I'm getting more familiar with this Recuva program. If it matters, the card is an 8GB san disk.

I've read about recovery software and whatnot, but I don't want to screw up any chance I may have of recovering the images since there are very good odds that I have the person responsible on the card. What are my options? Can I go to a local "computer guy/store" and have them try to recover the images? Geek Squad maybe? When I put the card in my laptop to view the images and possible culprits with the deputy I got a "card needs formatted" message. Attention: Before recovering data from SD card that cannot be read by PC. In my haste with the deputy there I forgot to turn off the camera before removing the card. Once they made it out I then removed the camera from the tree, opened the case and took out the sd card. I didn't touch the camera until the deputy arrived.
I called the sheriff's office and they sent out a deputy to file a report. The "good" news is that they didn't get the camera open and take the sd card. I recently had one of my trail cameras vandalized by someone using a concrete block.
